The online Master of Divinity degree from Crown College is offered completely online and provides an affordable and accessible option to students located in the U.S. and around the globe. Along with the flexibility of an online MDiv degree, the Crown program has also been designed to equip you with a diversity of ministry leadership skills and biblical and theological understanding so that you can serve with confidence and effectiveness in a variety of ministry positions such as a senior pastor, executive pastor, associate pastor, pastoral counselor, chaplain, missionary, theological educator, or as a leader or staff worker at a faith-based organization.

The final year of the M.Div. degree includes a summative experience in which students engage in practical ministry and receive mentoring as they reflect on their call to ministry.

Crown’s Divinity degree is transfer-friendly allowing students to build upon their previous graduate work in ministry or theological studies.  In addition, at Crown, those beginning their graduate work may be eligible to graduate with both an M. A. in Christian Studies or M. A. in Ministry Leadership and the Master of Divinity.

  • Learning Goals

    Crown’s regionally accredited online Master of Divinity degree program is designed to build a solid foundation for religious leadership.   This foundation includes an emphasis on biblical and theological study in addition to the development of practical ministry skills.  Through our Master of Divinity degree, we seek to train leaders who:

    Faculty with the highest academic degrees, and significant ministry and mission experience, lead the online courses. Students investigate, analyze and demonstrate an understanding of cultural influences in postmodern America and in diverse environments around the globe. The coursework also includes collaborative activities that mirror real-life situations. By constructing knowledge with peers within Crown’s digital environment, students acquire life skills in collaboration that are critical to professional success.

    *With the exception of CST 6212, students who have completed any of the above courses at the undergraduate level may petition to take a corresponding CST or BIB elective in place of those courses.

    ** Students pursuing ordination with the C&MA are encouraged to take Alliance Distinctives (CST 5222) as a CST elective since this course fulfills the Alliance Polity requirements for the denomination. Students are also encouraged to take Contemporary Issues in Missions as one of their electives if they are planning to serve overseas with the C&MA.

  • Completion Plan Options

    The Crown Online M.Div. is flexible in that students with no transfer work can complete the 72 credit hour degree in 2.5, 3, or 4 years.  These flexible completion plans listed below are designed to fit the life needs of our students.   Those working full-time may want to choose a 4 year completion plan while others may be able to dedicate their full-time efforts to graduate school thus completing the degree in 2.5 years.  With our block tuition plan, many students choose the three year completion plan in order to save time and money in their pursuit of the M.Div.

    Financial aid is funding made available by the federal government, state government, private entities and Crown. Crown College’s School of Online Studies and Graduate School programs participate in the Federal Pell Grant, Minnesota State Grant and Federal Direct Stafford Loans to help finance your education.

    Most financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. The first step is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is the government form used to help assess a family’s financial strength. Crown’s school code for FAFSA is: 002383. Students must apply for financial aid each year to be considered for funding.
