Posted June 2nd, 2010
In order to grant admission into the esteemed class of Faculty Emeriti, the Board of Trustees held a vote for Ron Griffiths entrance at their spring 2010 meeting, held on Crown’s campus over graduation weekend. The Board formally stated: WHEREAS, the Christian Ministries Department voted and approved WHEREAS, the Promotion and Tenure Committee voted and approvedWHEREAS, the Vice President of Academic Affairs approvedWHEREAS, the President of Crown College approvedIT IS THEREFORE RECOMMENDED: Professor Ronald Griffiths be promoted to Faculty Emeriti. In the College’s biography, Crusaders, Joe Tewinkel writes of Griffiths: “Born and raised in Baltimore, Md., Ron Griffiths made a decision for Christ as a senior in high school through the influence of his uncle who had invited him to church. Crown alum Ord Morrow encouraged him to attend Nyack College where he [Ron] took his undergraduate work and also met his wife, Odessa. While doing his M.R.E. studies at Gordon-Conwell Seminary, Griffiths was the founder and leader of the early Alliance Youth Corps, a summer missions program which has impacted thousands of college students’ lives since its inception.”Following christian education ministry positions in a United Methodist Church in Louisville, Ky., and the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle, Griffiths became Crown faculty in 1976 and led the Christian Education Department during the latter part of the era. Griffiths emphasized practical application of classroom material, using discussions, retreats, and trips as educational methods. He has served as a volunteer youth pastor in his local church, as well as to model what he has taught in the classroom,” (Crusaders 171).
Congratulations, Professor Griffiths!
