Global Leadership, Disaster Management Emphasis (M.A.)

Crown’s online Disaster and Emergency Management graduate emphasis addresses the management principles and best practices that are essential for any emergency management professional. Students are prepared with the practical skills necessary to provide leadership in ministry or non-profit organizations dedicated to disaster and emergency management. Crown’s DEM program also incorporates the elements of faith that so often go hand-in-hand with this critically important work. Students in the Master of Arts in Global Leadership program take additional coursework to prepare them to serve effectively in multi-cultural and global contexts.

The Disaster and Emergency Management M.A. emphasis is designed to help M.A. in Global Leadership students:

  • Successfully lead organizations in domestic and international contexts
  • Develop competencies in strategic planning, effective communication, team building and analysis
  • Learn effective leadership strategies for each phase in the disaster management cycle
  • Enhance skills in emergency preparedness, operations management and interagency coordination
  • Develop the skills needed to effectively minister to victims of disaster

In addition to taking a Disaster Management Leadership and Planning class and an Organizational Communication class, students can choose coursework in Emergency Management Policy, Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Operation Management, Hazard Mitigation and Emergency Relief and Redevelopment. These options give students the flexibility to choose courses that will best apply to their desired professional context.
