MA in Christian Studies students in the Theological Studies emphasis track are able to build upon their degree core in order to deepen their understanding of contemporary and historical issues in theology.   This concentration is designed for those who wish to teach in this area or pursue doctoral work in theology.

Degree details The Theological Studies emphasis within the Christian Studies master’s degree program consists of 9 credits and is designed for students with specific interest in research, writing, preaching, teaching, and future doctoral studies.

What it emphasizes A Theological Studies Emphasis embraces the Apostle Paul’s exhortation to Timothy to “Correctly handle the word of truth” (2 Timothy: 2:15).  Students are able to build upon their degree core in order to deepen their understanding of contemporary and historical issues in theology.   For pastors, the emphasis provides a strong foundation for developing exegetical skills related to scripture and theology.  This concentration is also designed for those who wish to teach in this area or pursue doctoral work in theology.

What you need to pursue this degree Those applying for entrance into this program will be required to have an accredited bachelor’s degree in any subject. This degree requires a spiritual commitment to gain Biblical knowledge and a deepening love for God and others.

    What areas are covered by a Theological Studies emphasis? The Theological Studies emphasis builds upon the strength of the degree core to help students explore contemporary issues in theology and also to examine advanced issues in hermeneutics, especially in Gospel literature.  Students also select an elective course in an area of interest.

    How long does it take to complete the degree? Crown’s 36 credit hour master’s degree is normally completed in two years, but students may elect to complete the degree more quickly or slowly depending on their availability.

    How often do I have to be on campus? The Master’s degree in Christian Studies with emphasis in Theological Studies is 100% online and has no requirement for you to travel to campus for any aspect of the program.  Although it is a fully online degree program, you will have a dedicated advisor throughout the program who can assist with various departments.  You will also have direct access to each of your instructors and will be able to reach them via phone or email. While not required, we do hope you will join us on-site for your graduation!  We host several special events for our online students and their families at our main campus in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota the day before graduation.  The actual commencement service is held on a Saturday.

    Do I need to be a pastor or missionary already to complete this program? No, although some familiarity with ministry as a career path will certainly help for this particular major.

    Can I transfer into the Christian Studies (MA) program if I’m still working on my bachelor’s degree? While some life experience and work history (such as current or previous work) may be considered for credit, as a master-level, professional degree, all students will be required to have a bachelor’s degree to be considered for the program and most students will be required to complete all courses included in the curriculum.
