Students in the Pastoral Leadership emphasis track focus on the practical management and administration of ministry in the local church context.   This concentration is designed for those who may serve as senior or associate pastors and anticipate having oversight responsibilities in the local church context.

Degree details The Pastoral Leadership emphasis within the Christian Studies and Ministry Leadership master’s degree programs consists of 9 credits and is designed for students with specific interest in pastoral and leadership roles that serve the church and parachurch organizations.   The emphasis provides students with a holistic view of the various aspects of church and chaplain ministries.

What it emphasizes Courses within the Pastoral Leadership emphasis help prepare students to address the practical needs facing churches and parachurches.  Students explore practical issues in ministry management and corporate worship. In addition, they take elective courses to build specific leadership competencies that are relevant to their current or envisioned ministry context.

What you need to pursue this degree Those applying for entrance into this program will be required to have an accredited bachelor’s degree in any subject. This degree requires a spiritual commitment to gain Biblical knowledge and a deepening love for God and others.

    Students from the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination who have not completed the Perspective on the World Christian Movement course through the C&MA are strongly encouraged to take INT 5510  for their elective.

    What areas are covered by a Pastoral Leadership emphasis? A Pastoral Leadership Emphasis will include classes to prepare you to better understand ministry in the local church and global arena. The student will learn how one’s social and cultural environment have a direct impact on the appropriate strategy for ministry. The areas covered in class will give the student real-world skills that can be applied in one’s ministry.

    How long does it take to complete the degree? Crown’s 36 credit hour master’s degree is normally completed in two years, but students may elect to complete the degree more quickly or slowly depending on their availability.

    How often do I have to be on campus? The Master’s degrees in Christian Studies and Ministry Leadership are 100% online and have no requirements for you to travel to campus for any aspect of the program.  Although it is a fully online degree program, you will have a dedicated advisor throughout the program who can assist with various departments.  You will also have direct access to each of your instructors and will be able to reach them via phone or email. While not required, we do hope you will join us on-site for your graduation!  We host several special events for our online students and their families at our main campus in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota the day before graduation.  The actual commencement service is held on a Saturday.

    Do I need to be a pastor or missionary already to complete this program? No, although some familiarity with ministry as a career path will certainly help for this particular major.

    Can I transfer into the Christian Studies (MA) or Ministry Leadership (MA) programs if I’m still working on my bachelor’s degree? While some life experience and work history (such as current or previous work) may be considered for credit, as a master-level, professional degree, all students will be required to have a bachelor’s degree to be considered for the program and most students will be required to complete all courses included in the curriculum.
