About the Teacher Education Department

Crown College is committed to the preparation of teachers who are dedicated to excellence and service in the Christian mission of teaching. The mission of the teacher education department is to develop classroom leaders by focusing on students’ interpersonal skills through the nurturing of human relationships (skills); valuing life-long learning and in the study of current educational theory and practice (knowledge); and focusing on professionalism, informed decision-making, and reflective practice (disposition). These values have helped us to create one of the top Christian teaching degree programs in Minnesota.

At the conclusion of the program, graduates are prepared to teach in public, private, and international schools. Crown College is accredited by the Minnesota Board of Teaching, as well as the Higher Learning Commission/North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The Teacher Education program fulfills requirements for teacher certification or licensure in most states except those requiring a five-year program or additional specific courses.

Why Choose a Teacher Education degree?

Shaping and molding young lives is a remarkable responsibility. At Crown College, a teacher is educated in the liberal arts, Biblical and Theological studies, and education studies. A teacher understands human intuition, follows the principles of effective practice, and works to promote individual growth in learning. A teacher cultivates students’ potential by earning their trust and by valuing and understanding their diversity. It is the natural integration of all these attributes, within the framework of a Christian worldview, which makes the ideal teacher. At Crown College, the teacher education department gives future teachers the tools and knowledge to succeed in the field of education in Minnesota, the United States, and globally.

What Can I Do with a Teacher Education Degree?

Graduates of Crown College’s Minnesota teaching degree program have the opportunity to apply for licensure after the completion of their degree and the Minnesota Testing and Licensure Exams (MTLEs). Students have had the opportunity to teach in a variety of settings, including Minnesota, the United States, and internationally. At Crown College, students may major in one of several teacher education programs in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and K-12 Education.
