Mathematics and Science Department
Integrating Christian Faith with a Passion for Science
Crown’s Mathematics and Science Department graduates young men and women who examine God’s creation from a Biblical perspective, in order to integrate their professional and vocational goals with ministry and service. Our Christ-centered professors are committed to helping students grow in their relationship with the Lord as they discover His unique calling for them in the sciences. In doing so, our faculty nurture students’ spiritual and academic growth.
Our math and science college in Minnesota provides an academically rigorous curriculum within the mathematics and science degree programs on our campus provides students with a Christian worldview of these disciplines. For example, students don’t simply study ecology, but ecology from the perspective of how we can be stewards of God’s creation. Students also complete Crown’s required 30 hours of Christian studies. This holistic approach produces graduates of high integrity and sound ethics, and who are well prepared to teach, work in the field, or continue on to graduate school.
Students are welcome to customize their degree program in preparation for future work or educational goals. Through their careful selection of electives, students become equipped to pursue graduate work in research, medical school, veterinary school or field biology. They may also prepare themselves for positions in state or federal agencies, or other related areas.
Crown’s small student-to-faculty ratio allows the department to mold the curriculum to student needs, just as students may tailor their academic program to address their future goals. Through internships and research studies on Crown’s campus, students enhance and advance their classroom learning.
The Math and Science Department also fulfills nursing program pre-requisites, as well as a variety of courses that support Crown’s overall educational goals for all students. These courses assist students in developing basic mathematical and analytical skills they can apply to their programs of study.
“Students who pursue majors in science will be encouraged to grow spiritually and academically. Our graduates enjoy the sciences and want to use their excellence in academics to also make a difference in society in God’s name.” – Dawn D. Locklear, Chair
