JULY 30: CROWN IS EXCITED TO HAVE STUDENTS BACK THIS FALL; UPDATE REGARDING FALL SPORTS

Summer is always busy on campus as we prepare for the semester to begin and this year is no different. We are looking forward to face-to-face classes beginning this on August 26. Unfortunately, COVID continues to have an impact on some of the co-curricular activities.

Today, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Presidents’ Council announced that football, soccer, and volleyball competitions scheduled for the fall will be postponed to the spring. Golf and cross country will be permitted to compete this fall—against conference members only—in accordance with Crown, MDH, and NCAA guidelines.

This decision was very difficult but is intended to keep the health and safety of students a top priority. We maintain our commitment to the continuing development of all teams and programs; conversations are taking place about how this impacts each student, each practice, and each team.

Coaches will host team meetings this week to discuss details specific to each sport and will also reach out to all prospective student-athletes to ensure they are cared for and served well during this time.

Because of this change, we have had to make a few adjustments regarding move-in dates for fall student-athletes. Here are the updated MOVE-IN dates:

AUGUST 18: Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Student-Athletes
AUGUST 21: Football, Volleyball, Soccer FIRST-YEAR Student-Athletes
AUGUST 25: Football, Volleyball, Soccer RETURNING Student-Athletes

While we are disappointed by today’s announcement, our focus has shifted to maximizing the new flexibility provided by the NCAA in some areas and creating a year-round plan to deliver an incredible experience to our student-athletes. I look forward to welcoming you to campus this fall!
