Outstanding Recent Grad of the Year
Marquise Dixon graduated with a degree in history in 2010 and his first year of inner city ministry was eye opening. Starting as a youth outreach worker for Urban Ventures in January 2012, Dixon split time working with youth in the juvenile detention center and serving for PowerHouse, a mentoring program through Urban Ventures.
“I learned so much about myself and my perspective on ministry was challenged,” Dixon said. “The chip I once had on my shoulder was quickly removed when I had my world turned upside down hearing the stories of some of the kids I worked with. I started learning from the very kids I was hoping to teach.”
As a mentor, he began earning their trust and respect as Urban Ventures brought him back for a second year. He took full advantage, accepting greater responsibility with their leadership development and scholarship program, Act Six.
“I have the amazing opportunity to recruit, select and train the next generation of leaders,” he said.
While at Crown, Dixon was a recipient of the Christian Leadership Scholarship and participated in football (2007-10) and track (2007-08). In 2009-10, he was a captain for the football team. He was active throughout his career in recruiting other athletes and that passion led to a graduate assistant position in admissions at Crown. Dixon was responsible for recruiting multicultural students and was the defensive backs coach for the Storm.
Dixon lives in South Minneapolis with his wife of four years, Joelle. They have two children, Malachi and Emerson Elaine.
