Crown College 2015 Alumni Association Awards
Alumnus of the Year
Tom Lundeen graduated from Crown College with a B.A. in History in 1979 and jumped right into a life of ministry.
While attending Bethel Seminary, where he continued his postgraduate education and received a Master’s of Divinity, Tom accepted his first ministry position as an assistant pastor at Rose Hill C&MA in 1979. He was licensed with the C&MA that year and became the pastor at Hope Community Church, in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, in 1982.
“I came to Crown as a brand new Christfollower,” Lundeen said, “and while I had learned a lot about God and the Bible, at Crown I was exposed to great teaching that helped me mature rapidly, godly examples that modeled real faith and challenged me, individuals that invested time and care into my life to help shape and mold my character, and opportunities to serve in ministries both in local churches and outside of churches.”
Tom met his wife, Gwen (’78 with an A.A., and ’85 with a B.S. in Missiology), at Crown College and they married in 1978. They live in Becker, Minnesota, and have two children, Georgia and Daved, both dual citizens born in Australia while the Lundeens worked as Christian and Missionary Alliance missionaries from 1986 to 1991. During their time in Australia, the Lundeens led an Australian C&MA church growth initiative, Strategic City Outreach Plan for Evangelization (S.C.O.P.E), helping build a new facility and coaching/mentoring an assistant pastor at Baulkham Hills Alliance Church in Sydney.
The Lundeens came back to Minnesota in 1991 and Tom again pastored Hope Community Church until 2003, when he accepted the senior role at Riverside Church in Big Lake, Minnesota.
Riverside Church has tripled in size since 2003 and successfully completed two major remodeling projects. Tom said he is grateful for the amazing work of God as he has witnessed thousands of people say yes to Jesus Christ in his 12 years. The stories of transformed lives are constant encouragement.
“We are thankful to be in a place where God has built a strong team and is doing tremendous work in so many different ways,” Tom said. “I am genuinely humbled to receive this award. It is an honor to receive this type of recognition when there are so many tremendous graduates of Crown over the years.”
