How Your Program Is Unique Here:
The study of theology is not merely an intellectual exercise, but rather an establishment of a functional worldview that has the Gospel as its filter (Gospel Lens). The proclamation of God as Creator (Gen. 1:1) also implies that a He is the Designer (John 1:1-3; Col. 1:16). Therefore, “His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made” (Rom. 1:20). Theology, then, is not solely an academic endeavor, but rather an expression of worship saturated in the biblical text which flows into the life of the believer. We serve students to live through the Gospel lens!
I was raised by two wonderful parents who immigrated from Laos during the Vietnam War. Jesus Christ found my parents through our family doctor who evangelized to them during a health crisis. My brothers and I came to faith in Christ at a youth camp (HLUB) and slowly grew in our faith as a church was planted in Indianapolis, IN. I struggled through my teenage years in understanding the work and Person of Jesus Christ. The lack of discipleship due the infancy of the entire congregation made the first few years of our faith journey interesting to say the least. By God’s grace different trials of my life led me to serve in youth ministry and, eventually, answered the call to vocational ministry.
I found myself at a small Bible college called Crown College. It was there where I first was engaged with mentorship and discipleship. Though I was rough around the edges and frequently “bumped” into other people, the Lord allowed me to graduate. Shortly thereafter, I accepted a position as Youth Pastor at Twin Cities Hmong Alliance Church (TCHAY). It was there that I fell in love with theology through the exposition of the text. All of the training from Crown College finally began to make sense! I ran into pastor/theologians such as John Piper, Timothy Keller, Albert Mohler, Mark Dever, DA Carson, Tom Schreiner, and more. Through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit my appetite for Scripture and the thoughts of God grew. I am a product of grace!
Favorite Bible Verse:
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1
Upon graduating at Crown College with a Youth Ministry I spent a little under a year working for Admissions. I was blessed to work alongside Bill Smalls! Afterwards, I spent the next five years at Twin Cities Hmong Alliance Church in Maplewood, MN as their Youth Pastor. Shortly thereafter I transitioned over to Hmong American Alliance Church in Maplewood, MN.
What You Enjoy Most About Teaching At Crown:
I hope to be able to assist students in seeing that theology is the window into God’s creative purpose for the world. That the discipline is not merely for eggheads (which I am far from), but for His people to enjoy Him through all the faculties of life.
What Students Say About Your Classes:
I hope to take the complex theoretical notions of Christian thought down to the street level.
