How Your Program Is Unique Here:
My goal is always to teach the skills students need to become confident and knowledgeable leaders in their chosen business field through a faith-based, ethics-driven, and hands-on curriculum. By incorporating the use of realistic computerized simulations, software, and other technology into assignments, I feel students will be better prepared for today’s workplace.
I was raised Catholic, but church was not a very big part of our family life. In high school, I listened to a television program where Billy Graham spoke about a relationship with Christ. I continued to seek, but it was not until years later when I attended his crusade in Minneapolis that I understood what that relationship truly meant. Since then, I have continued to learn and grow in that relationship and do my best to follow God’s leading in my life.
Favorite Bible Verse and Why:
A favorite verse I strive to live by is Micah 6:8, which says, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” – which to me means to not judge but instead love others unconditionally, letting the Holy Spirit do the convicting, and always giving all the glory to God for everything.
I have over 25 years’ experience as a bookkeeper and accountant in multiple service and manufacturing companies and, in the past, owned an automotive service company and an adult foster care home. I have also worked as an independent auditor for a Minneapolis CPA firm. After enrolling in Crown to obtain my Bachelor degree, I began working in the HR and finance office where I continued to work almost 9 years. I have spent the last 5 years working as a tax accountant for a CPA firm in WI and own Geurts Tax & Business Services where I specialize in individual and business taxation and small business management/HR consulting. Since 2010, I have also taught part-time in the online business program at Crown and currently act as the Business Coordinator for the School of Online Studies and Graduate Studies.
What You Enjoy Most About Teaching at Crown:
One of the greatest things about Crown is the strong Christian environment, genuine faculty and staff, and the amazing student body. Having worked many years in secular industries, I am excited to be back at Crown where I can help students develop the skills they need to confidently become strong, faith-led business leaders in a decidedly secular world.
