Ridgeview Nurses Get SIM Training

In early December, emergency department nurses from Ridgeview Medical Center completed training at the Crown College Nursing Lab using Sim Man

A longtime partnership exists between the Crown nursing program and Ridgeview Medical Center (RMC) of Waconia, Minn., and on December 8, 2009, a group of Emergency Department nurses were at the College to participate in training sessions using the Simulation Mannequin (Sim Man). RMC contributed towards the purchase of the Sim Man in spring of 2008.

Sim Man is an advanced patient simulator produced by the Laerdal Corporation, and can be used by health care professionals from a variety of backgrounds to teach and reinforce clinical skills, as well as to develop clinical judgment that is a part of patient care. Healthcare professionals from different departments of RMC also participated in a training event for Sim Man that was held here at Crown in the fall of 2008. During this training they learned how to operate Sim Man and how to develop scenarios for training.

“These training sessions are a great teaching tool,” said Christy Secor, assistant professor of nursing at Crown. “They can be used to help nurses as they continue to provide the best in quality patient care.”
