Discern 2008

During the week of October 13-17, "Discern 2008" will take place on Crown's campus. This event seeks to help students wade through the local and national election processes.

The campus will be engaged on current political topics, and why they should care or even get involved in today's politics.

All events will be in the Crown College Chapel and are open to the public. These
events are free except Friday evening; see below for ticketing.

Monday, October 13th:

  • 3:00 p.m. - Former Secretary of State & current legislative candidate Mary Kiffmeyer of Big Lake
  • 4:00 p.m. - MN Representative Bruce Anderson of Buffalo
  • 6:00 p.m. - MN Senator Gen Olson of Minnetrista


Wednesday, October 15th:

  • 3:00 p.m. - MN Representative Joe Hoppe of Chaska
  • 4:00 p.m. - Congressman Jim Ramstad of the MN 3rd U.S. District
  • 6:00 p.m. - Political candidate Evan Rapp for District 34B


Friday, October 17th:

  • 4:00 p.m. - MN Representative Paul Kohls of Victoria
  • 4:45 p.m. - Political candidate Marcia Krueger for District 34A
  • 7:30 p.m. - Jason Lewis, radio show host & political pundit.

The Coffee Shoppe on campus serves Caribou Coffee, and guests are welcome to mingle with Jason Lewis after the event. Ticket prices are being underwritten, in part, by Crown College to make this event possible.

Crown College, as a Christian, non-profit organization, is a non-partisan institution.  Candidates and officials from both parties were invited and encouraged to come.  However, only those who accepted the invitation are on the Discern 2008 schedule.


Jason Lewis

Crown College welcomes Jason Lewis, Minnesota’s “Mr. Right,” to its campus in St. Bonifacius, Minn. on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m.  He will speak to Crown’s students and guests, discussing politics, conservatism and leadership.  A question and answer period will follow his address.

Lewis can be heard on KTLK-FM weekdays 4-7 p.m. Talkers Magazine has named him the one of the top 100 most important talk show hosts in the nation.  Lewis has been twice featured in ABC Radio's "The Year in Talk" and has also been a substitute host for Rush Limbaugh.

Lewis has been quoted in the Washington Post and has written editorials for newspapers throughout the country, including the Wall Street Journal. He has also appeared on such nationally broadcast television programs as NBC's Today Show, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNBC.

Lewis earned his Masters of Arts Degree in Political Science at the University of Colorado-Denver and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education/Business at the University of Northern Iowa. He also completed the Series 7 General Securities Examination requirement from the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). In 1990, he was the Republican nominee for the United States Congress from Colorado's Second District.
