The Dean is responsible to lead the graduate studies and on line departments in providing a program of excellence through the fulfillment of the mission and strategic goals of the College. This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The President may also speak into the responsibilities and duties of this position. The Dean oversees the work of the entire graduate and on line programs departments and has three direct reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Establish academic unit goals, objectives, and direction in accordance with College philosophy. Communicate accurately and faithfully the views of the administration to the academic unit and the views of the academic unit to the administration.
- Organize and productively oversee regular academic unit meetings. Attend regular meetings and events of the President’s Cabinet.
- Conduct or assist in the academic unit’s evaluation of faculty members teaching in the unit.
- Recommend new positions and assist the CAO in recruitment of new personnel; recruit part-time, full-time, and adjunct faculty as needed.
- Support and encourage the professional growth of unit faculty and staff through regular evaluation, departmental learning opportunities, and communication about professional development opportunities outside of the College and individual goal setting, as appropriate.
- Read students evaluations of unit faculty members and provide constructive feedback in conjunction with academic director.
- Oversee the academic unit curriculum taught in all programs and validate that its content is current, coherent in structure, and comprehensive in scope.
- Assist the academic director in the development of an academic schedule, coordinating courses with other units as necessary, and assist in the assignment of adjunct faculty to teach courses offered by the department.
- Review the syllabi of courses taught in the academic unit. Provide leadership in the cyclical program review and assessment processes.
- Oversee the editing of College catalog and website copy for the academic unit. Oversee the development and periodic revision of the unit curriculum information sources such as the Curriculum Planning Guides and the Planned Course Offering.
- Recommend and coordinate the acquisition of the academic unit material to the Director of Library Services.
- Make recommendations for the academic unit budget and to approve unit budget expenditures.
- Assist in the facilitation of efforts to recruit and retain students in programs offered by the academic unit. Assist with issues that arise between students and faculty members.
- Assist Academic Advisory Committee in implementing the Intentional Advising Strategy by mentoring or assigning a mentor to new unit employees.
- Provide direction in the academic advisement of students within offered majors (advising, summer registration, special approvals, etc.).
- Collaborate in the development of the educational outreach of the College.
- Perform specialized functions related to agencies outside of the College, such as the Minnesota Department of Education, CCNE, NCA, etc.

- Knowledge and understanding of FERPA and basic employment law
- Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communicative skills
- Be agreement with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Terminal degree in educational administration (exceptions made case by case where warranted);
- Previous successful administrative experience required; college or university level preferred (exceptions made case by case where warranted).
- Previous successful experience at the college or university level required in academics, enrollment, and adult degree programs.
