About the Intercultural Studies and Social Science department
By joining the Intercultural Studies and Social Science Department, a student has a number of opportunities through excellent majors and minors for both domestic and international service. Our Intercultural Studies major will prepare students for a life of cross-cultural work and ministry, while our Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) major offers much of the same training but adds a specific vocational skill to enhance a student’s marketability overseas.
For students interested in Urban work and ministry, our new Urban Ministry Major provides the opportunity to live in Minneapolis for a year while taking classes and fulfilling an internship at a non-profit organization. In this same realm, we offer a Linguistics Major, in partnership with the Summer Institute of Linguistics. All of these programs will equip students to be effective culture brokers in work and ministry in diverse contexts. Two additional majors that our department offers are the Psychology Major and the Legal Studies Major. Both of these majors offer the student excellent opportunities to prepare for graduate school in their respective areas.
