About the Teacher Education Department
Crown College is committed to the preparation of teachers who are dedicated to excellence and service in the Christian mission of teaching. The mission of the teacher education department is to develop classroom leaders by focusing on student’s interpersonal skills through the nurturing of human relationship. We value life-long learning and current educational theory and practice, focusing on professionalism, informed decision-making and reflective practice.
At the conclusion of the program, graduates are prepared to teach in public or private schools, Christian schools, schools abroad, including mission schools. The College is approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching to offer the above programs leading to licensure and is also accredited by the Higher Learning Commission / North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The program fulfills requirements for teacher certification or licensure in most states except those requiring a five-year program or additional specific courses. Students may major in one of several teacher education programs: Elementary Education, English Education, Life Sciences Education, Social Studies Education, History Education, Physical Education and Music Education.
Why Choose Teacher Education?
A decision to become a teacher requires a choice that must be made both carefully and prayerfully. Shaping and molding young lives is a remarkable responsibility. A teacher is an individual who is educated in the liberal arts, as well as biblical and theological studies. A teacher understands people and human institutions; understands and follows the principles of effective teaching; and works to promote individual growth in learning. A teacher is creative and flexible in thinking and cultivates the potential of students through trust and through both valuing and understanding their diversity. A successful teacher is one who models leadership through interpersonal skills and through the nurturing of human relationships. It is the natural integration of all these attributes within the framework of a Christian worldview which makes the ideal teacher.
