Crown Starts New NCF Chapter

NCF, Nurse’s Christian Fellowship, is an organization devoted to providing a local, regional, national and international network to bring the message of Jesus Christ and a Christian worldview to nursing education and practice.  Begun in 1948 as a ministry of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, NCF is both a professional organization and a ministry of and for nurses and nursing students.  Local groups meet for prayer, Bible discussion, mutual encouragement and outreach, supported by NCF staff and volunteers.  Partnership with NCF International enables chapters to link with Christian nurses in other countries. 

Crown’s new NCF chapter was started in 2006 by Professor Vicki Kyarsgaard to encourage students who were starting the nursing program.  Membership has been relatively small but as the benefits of membership become more widely known, it is sure to grow.  This year, Senior Becky Overbeeke is President and Junior Jennifer Henely is Treasurer.  October is the big kick-off month with the start of raising support to buy pins for the nursing students Crown has partnered with in Leogane, Haiti. On October 23rd we will be hosting a tea where Hilda Alcindor from Haiti will be sharing with the students what is going on down in the nursing school in Leogane. Then on November 13-16  Professor Kyarsgaard will be taking NCF students to the Global Health Missions Conference. 

So…reasons for the Crown Nursing student to consider NCF membership?

  • NCF provides Christ-centered resources and programs that equip nursing students for ministry in nursing…something that Crown’s Nursing Program has been about from the start.
