Ben Lawson and Kate Manske are Senior Nursing Students at Crown College. This fall they are doing their course work from central Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo). They will be serving in the areas of acute care, mental health and community health at a facility called Heal Africa (healafrica.org/cms/). This past summer, Kate Manske, 4 other students, Professor Kyarsgaard, and Professor Mann spent 4 weeks serving at Heal Africa. You can track Ben and Kate's big adventure at www.healcongo08.blogspot.com .
Assistant Nursing Professor Jane Wrede recently joined Crown’s Nursing Department to teach the online course Role of the Professional Nurse , the first Nursing course in the BSN Completion plan of study. Professor Wrede received her M.S. from the University of Minnesota, her B.S.N. from Minnesota State University, Mankato and her RN from Northwest Iowa Community College. Her professional affiliations include MNDONA and NLN.
Jane grew up in northwest Iowa and has 4 children. As part of her Christian testimony, she says, “I grew up in a Christian home and had the privilege of having a Christian education through high school. As I grow older I am finding that my love for Jesus Christ continues to grow. I am finding I am taking for granted fewer of the things He has so greatly blessed me with. God has had me on His potter’s wheel and it is in those tough times that I have grown the most.” When asked her favorite scripture verse, Jane says, “ I have many favorite verses. One that I really like that we talked about in class last week is Ephesians 6:11: Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
The Nursing team welcomes Jane and the ministry she will undoubtedly be bringing to her teaching at Crown.
