Biography

For the past ten years I have served in the Bible and Theology Department at Crown College. In addition to Bible classes, I teach courses on spiritual formation and church history. I also enjoy mentoring young men on campus. My passion is seeing young men and women grow in the Lord - moving from where they are currently with Christ to a more intimate walk with him. Whether meeting with someone one-on-one in my office, teaching class, or leading a chapel service, I call Crown students to be transformed. Above all, I seek to invite them into the deeper spiritual life and to challenge them to press on in their spiritual pilgrimage. Before coming to Minnesota, my wife Sharon and I served four years on the mission field in Eastern Europe. We love walking and hiking, as well as traveling and studying together, often visiting sites in Europe where spiritual leaders of past centuries once walked. I also go to the Boundary Waters most every summer to enjoy wilderness camping and God's creation.

Testimony

Growing up in a Christian family, I always knew about Christ. However, in sixth grade I entered a personal relationship with him. Since the end of high school I have been on fire for the Lord and have sought to grow in him and serve him with my whole heart.

Verse

My focus verse for the past year has been Isaiah 43:1, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Affiliations

I am an ordained pastor with the C&MA. In addition I have been a member of the American Society of Church History for many years.

Since 2007 I have also served on the board of Restoration Ministries in Chanhassen, MN. On their website you can find my column, "Deep Wells," on the spiritual renewal of the Beguines in the 13th century, as well as photographs of Beguine sites in Belgium.
