Isaiah 60:1
The Twenty-Sixth Annual Celebration of the Christmas Story in Word and Music
This musical event has become an eagerly anticipated holiday tradition at Crown College since its first concert in 1983 and is very well attended by parents, friends, and members of the Crown community. This year's concert is expected to be just as popular with over 1,000 people attending one of the three concerts.
Much reflection takes place on the single event which is celebrated in these concerts. No matter how the birth of Christ is considered, the most powerful thought concerns the fact that Jesus, the Son of God, entered into a life with much of the same experiences that we still encounter today.
As we listen to the Christmas story, we remember the joy and blessing of this event, knowing it led to our salvation. Yet we cannot escape the reality of this event, either, for it was filled with the difficulties conditioned by the times in which it took place. The characters in the story were, in a very real way, participants in the situations in which they lived. These people, witnesses to this miraculous event, were much like us. Through the music and spoken word, the audience takes an active role in this thrilling and life-changing story.
The music heard during Christmas in Crown Chapel is meant to focus our attention on those in the story: the shepherds, wise men, angels, Mary and Joseph, and of course, the Christ child. The music performed will give you a chance to experience the Christmas story in a new and meaningful way, and it is the hope of the College that everyone who witnesses Christmas in Crown Chapel will leave with a renewed sense of hope and purpose.
