Licensure

The AGS Teacher Education Licensure Program offers adults who have already earned an accredited bachelor’s degree in another field the opportunity to earn a Minnesota Teaching Licensure. This licensure program (K - Grade 6) is approved by the Minnesota Department of Education. Students are required to take the Minnesota Teacher's Licensure Examination (MTLE) Basic Skills, before they can apply for entrance to the Teacher Education Department of Crown College. Successful Completion of the MTLE Basic Skills, Content Knowledge, and Pedagogy tests are required for state licensure. Students within the Elementary Education licensure program (license for K-6) will declare a minor of either Pre-Primary or Middle School content.

Career Outlook

Those who complete the Elementary Education licensure program at Crown will have the opportunity to teach in public and private schools, as well as religious organizations' and other various arenas. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, roughly 1.5 million elementary school teachers held jobs in 2008. Current estimates expect employment to increase by 16% to 1,793,700 jobs by 2018. Many present-day teachers are expected to retire over the next 8 years, which should potentially create  many new job openings.
