Financial Aid
-

If you do not have a copy of your federal tax return, you many request a summary transcript from the Internal Revenue Service by calling 1-800-829-1040 or complete a written request on IRS Form 4506. Be sure to specify the tax year you need. It may take up to six weeks before you receive this tax listing. Also, you must sign the copy of your summary transcript before sending it to the Crown College Financial Aid Office.
-
If I don't co-sign for my son/daughter, what else can he/she do?
-
While your son/daughters chances of getting a loan with good terms increases with a co-signor, there are some alternative loans that will let them apply without a cosigner. The Financial Aid Office can give you more information upon request or visit our website at www.crown.edu/finaid, select undergraduate financial aid, loans, then Alternative loans at the bottom of the webpage.

Adding and/or dropping classes after the semester has started could result in a change to the students financial aid package. Pell grant and Minnesota State grant eligibility are based on the number of credits for which a student is enrolled. Minnesota residents must be enrolled for 15 credits to be considered full-time for State Grant purposes. If students enroll with fewer than 15 credits the grant is prorated accordingly.
Students who withdraw from Crown College during a semester are subject to a recalculation of their financial aid. All students considering withdrawing are encouraged to consult with the Financial Aid Office to determine the financial impact of their decision.
-
I just lost my job; can my students financial aid be adjusted?
-
Possibly. You will need to submit an appeal letter with supporting documentation and a current tax return to the Crown College Financial Aid Office. When writing your appeal be sure to give specific dollar amounts and confine yourself to one calendar year (January to December). Include photocopies of supporting documents that will help explain your situation, but keep the number of sheets to a minimum. In extreme cases, we will process your appeal (for fall semester aid) before the year has ended, then adjust spring semester aid after you have provided actual year-end information. In most cases, the financial aid office will want to compare two years of taxes for a reduction of income appeal.
-
What is the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans?
-
A subsidized loan is based on financial need. The federal government will pay the interest on a subsidized loan through your enrollment period in school and through the grace period. An unsubsidized loan is not based on financial need. You must either pay the interest monthly/quarterly, or have the interest capitalized (added to the principal loan amount). Repayment of the interest and principle begins six months after you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time enrollment. The interest rate is 6 percent for loans first disbursed July 1, 2008 to July 1, 2009.
-
Should my student be paying the interest on an unsubsidized student loan while in school?
-
If they can pay the interest while in school, they will repay less in the long run. If they choose to capitalize the interest (having the interest added to the principle amount of the loan), they will increase the total amount they must pay back after they graduate or drop below half-time enrollment.
-
Does my student have to borrow the entire amount of loan on their Award Letter?
-
No, borrow only what is needed to meet the educational costs. Your student should simply write on the Initial Award Letter copy the total amount he/she wishes to borrow for the academic year.
-
What if my student borrows the loan and later on finds out they don’t need the loan?
-
The loans are flexible. Your student may cancel part or all of a loan any time during the school year.
-
If my student does not want to borrow an educational loan at this time, is there another option for financing college costs?
-
Yes, they may want to consider Tuition Management Systems. For more information about this payment plan, go to www.afford.com/crown or call the Crown Student Billing Office at 952-446-4126.

If your insurance company provides a form, you can fax (952-446-4329) or mail it to the Crown College Registrar's Office, 8700 College View Dr, St. Bonifacius MN 55375. It is helpful if you indicate which semester needs verification, where the information should be sent, and note any additional information that your insurance company may be requesting.
-
How do I find out my students grades or account information?
-
Due to a federal law called the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Crown is limited on the information that we are allowed to share with any family members. If your student has signed the FERPA waiver allowing parents to view their student information it will be on record in our registrar's and billing offices. Until that form is signed and on record we cannot share any information with anyone outside of the student.
If your student does sign the FERPA waiver, Crown will be able to discuss certain information about their classes and account information. This information has its limits as well. No class information, grades, etc. may be shared over the phone, it will have to be requested and sent to you by mail.
