Meet Your Advisors

Jeff Johnson

A.S. in Veterinary Medicine, Medical Institute of Minnesota – Bloomington, MN

B.S. in Psychology/Counseling, Crown College Online – St. Bonifacius, MN (current)
Veteran, United States Marine Corps

Jeff’s path to Crown, like most of our students, was special. He served in the military, the corporate world and he was even a golf pro. And just like our students, Jeff’s Crown experience has enriched his life.

Jeff, what is your favorite thing about working at Crown College?
“The people; never have I worked in such a friendly, comfortable and spiritual setting. Everyone you come in contact with on a daily basis is kind, caring and compassionate. We all work hard for our students and for each other, because we know we are bringing others and ourselves closer to Christ.”

What do you enjoy most in life?
“In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy several outdoor activities, such as motorcycling, hiking, camping and golf. Model building, cooking and darts are also some of my hobbies.”

What did you do before working at Crown?
“Before coming to work at Crown, I was in the property management field. I also have prior experience as a golf professional, retail manager, automobile service and repair and the military. All of these experiences were stepping stones strategically placed before me by God, en route to my greater calling here at Crown College.”

Tamera Kempel

B.S. in Psychology, Crown College Online – St. Bonifacius, MN (current)

We are so glad to have Tamera as a part of our team. Whenever she isn’t helping students navigate their degree options, you can find Tamera cheering on her daughters at their soccer games, walking on a Minnesota trail or whipping up a healthy meal in the kitchen.

Tamera, what are your favorite things about working at Crown?
“My favorite things about working at Crown begin the minute my car turns into the driveway and I am surrounded by our beautiful campus grounds. Beyond that, I love working in an environment that reminds me of God’s grace and His glory each day, as He allows me to reach out to students who want to begin or continue their educational journey with Him by their side.”

What are your favorite things about life?
“I love spending time with my husband, my daughters, family and friends. Both of my teenage daughters play competitive soccer and I do my best to never miss a game. I enjoy traveling, especially road trips. I enjoy fitness, and love to combine fitness with my love of nature, so walking Crown’s beautiful campus grounds has become a favorite lunchtime activity. Finally, when I have the time, I love to cook healthy meals and snacks. Of course, I enjoy not-so-healthy treats too, but a favorite pastime of mine is to take a not-so-healthy food choice and reinvent it in a healthy, but delicious way.”

What did you do before working at Crown?
“Before coming to Crown, I worked as a college adviser for a proprietary school. I enjoyed my interaction with the students very much. However, my heart was called in a different direction. I feel very blessed to be able to continue my career in higher education at Crown College.”

Emily Svendsen

What are your favorite things about working at Crown?
“My favorite thing about working at Crown is being a part of an institution that has a mission that supports my personal goals and values. Being able to work at an institution that is glorifying Christ through developing a new generation of Christian leaders is a blessing. I love being able to work with students ready to embark on the exciting educational journey here at Crown.”

What are your favorite things about life?
“I have a couple passions that I am able to pursue in my time when I am not working. I love being involved in youth and worship ministry. Investing in the lives of students is so rewarding as you see God using you to influence young men and women to further His kingdom. I love sports and thoroughly enjoyed being involved in Crown’s athletic department as a student and employee. Other than that I love my family and friends, getting to spend time with them is what recharges me! I am so blessed by those God has placed in my life!”

What did you do before working at Crown?
“I was blessed with the opportunity to receive my undergraduate education at Crown College. I spent four wonderful years on campus involved with athletics, student development, and an array of campus activities. I was then blessed to move from my role as a student to working for our Online Studies Department here at Crown. I am enjoying the opportunity to work with students that are embarking on a journey here at Crown that I too was blessed to take.”

What makes Crown College different from other online schools?

Crown carries nearly a century-long legacy of preparing leaders to serve Christ in all professions. Our programs are regionally accredited and ranked in the Top 10 nationally for online Christian adult programs.  Crown College degrees are relevant and practical, allowing students to apply what they learn immediately within their workplace.  Our programs are completely online and paced in such a way that adult learners can take just one course at a time, while keeping their full-time job, and still finishing their degree in two short years.  In addition, Crown offers a great return on investment, offering one of the ten most affordable private Christian colleges in the Midwest.

What makes Crown College different from other online schools?

I believe there are three distinctions that help Crown College standout in the crowd of online schools. Number one is our customer service. Each person, whether in support of or directly involved with the students goes above and beyond to make sure that students’ journeys are smooth and successful. Number two is our faith integrated curriculum. We believe it to be imperative to include the bible and theology in all of our courses. Lastly is our commitment. We take pride in being thorough with our processes and helping the student through enrollment and beyond. The students we enroll are more to us than just numbers; they are brothers and sisters in Christ.
