Your Testimony?

I am a native Minnesotan who grew up in a pastor's home and became a believer at an early age. After serving for a brief time as a pastor in the Christian and Missionary Alliance, I came to Crown in 1975 to continue ministry by teaching courses in Bible, Theology and Philosophy. I am married and have two grown children, both of whom attended Crown.

Favorite Bible verse and why?

2 Timothy 2:11-13 - Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

These verses encapsulate our Christian relationship with God, past, present and future, as well as God’s sovereignty within it and over it, grounded in his faithful character.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Crown?

I enjoy encouraging students to cherish scripture, to think theologically, and live as a Christian. Few experiences in teaching surpass the occasional “eureka” moment when a student suddenly comprehends a challenging concept and recognizes its significance for daily life.

From a career standpoint, what will students be prepared to do with a degree from your program?

The program in Biblical and Theological Studies is primarily a pre-seminary, or pre-graduate major eventually leading to ministry or an academic career.

What would you say to parents of prospective students about having their son/daughter at Crown?

Historically, Crown has fostered a safe environment in which students are guided personally by caring mentors, nurtured spiritually through biblically sound teaching, and challenged intellectually by qualified, Christian faculty. The emphases on the Bible as the source of faith, and on sound doctrine as the foundation for Christian thinking and living provide a basis for service to God’s Kingdom regardless of one’s vocation.
