Dr. Rivard is Professor of Music and Director of Instrumental Music at Crown College. He teaches music theory, history, worship theology and directs the Crown Brass. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education (St. Cloud State University), a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance (Northwestern University) and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Church Music (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary).
He taught high school band in both the U.S. and Canada before becoming a professor of music and chair at Canadian Bible College in Regina, Saskatchewan (now Ambrose College in Calgary, Alberta). Dr. Rivard played professionally with the Regina Symphony Orchestra and has recorded with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). He has given instrumental clinics, adjudicated band festivals, and was on the faculty of the Saskatchewan Summer School of the Arts for several seasons.
Dr. Rivard has also presented church worship seminars across Canada and in the U.S. He was the executive director for the 2003 Christian and Missionary Alliance hymnal, Voices in Worship. A recognized expert on the hymns of A. B. Simpson (founder of The C&MA) he has also published his own songs of worship. Dr. Rivard joined the Crown faculty in 2004 and has since received the Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Working with Students awards.
