  • CAMP NURSE- REQUIREMENTS: The nurse must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school and have a current RN License in Minnesota and CPR certification.  RN may delegate to LPN following the agency scope of practice guide. Positive communication skills, detail orientated, organized and good customer service skills required. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for providing direct supervision and support of Health Care Staff. Manage the posted weekly Health Center schedule and time off schedule; serve as relief while others have time off. Assist Director of Health with camp staff orientation and Health Center staff orientation. Train and assist off staff to work with participants   with special medical needs such as diabetes, gastrostomies, ostomies, catheters, etc. Review health histories prior to check-in for potential concerns and communicate information to other staff as appropriate. Set up health center / manage inventory. Assist with camper check-in and check-out process to assure completeness and satisfied customer service. Communicate with care givers and parents regarding camper health care needs and notification of illness, injury or other event. Medication administration as assigned and facilitate nurse double checks with HCA II’s Sunday p.m. Treat health care concerns of campers and staff, following protocols and physicians orders. Manage health center documentation: audit medication and treatment sheets 3 times a week and also Health Center visit records. Coordinate clinic appointments/transportation.  Determine need for emergency transport, implement transport including needed paper work, and then provides briefing and positive communication after event. Attend daily and weekly meetings. Responsible for notifying Director of Health of: incomplete files on participants (i.e., Health Histories, Physicals, Questionnaires or applications), participants  with special medical needs and special diets, any serious illness or injury of participants and/or staff and all work related injury, referrals to clinic/emergency medical care, medication errors, and recommendations for a safe and healthy camp environment. Write camper profiles and audit profiles for accuracy and completion 2-4 weeks prior to next camp session. Complete weekly Infection Control reports and submit them to Director.  Write Health Care Staff evaluations, discuss outcome with the Director, whom will perform evaluation with Health Center Staff member. Maintain cleanliness of the health center. Serve as a positive, professional role model.  Create team focus and support co-workers. Maintain personal health throughout camp session and be a resource for medical wellness. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor. 
  • COUNSELORS – all sites REQUIREMENTS: The Counselor should be a high school graduate, preferably in college.  A successful volunteer experience Friendship Ventures may be an acceptable substitute for age requirement.  Must be physically and emotionally strong, mentally alert, creative, and flexible.  Must have the ability to lift at least 40 lbs. and  work well with others. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the health, personal care needs, safety and general welfare of all individuals who are assigned to their cabin.  Assist individuals with physical disabilities or other limitations who need support with eating meals, walking, transferring, using the bathroom, etc. Responsible to assist in planning and implementing daily activities with Program Staff and co‑workers to meet the needs and interests of the cabin group.  Also to take part in all activities with the with encouragement and positive reinforcement. Responsible to the health care and administrative staff for notification of sickness/injury, or change in participant behavior and to assist with treatments needed by participant. Make sure all participants’ belongings are properly checked in upon arrival and all items are present and accounted for when leaving.  Assist them in caring for personal belongings; see that soiled items are laundered and that a clean outfit is saved for going home. Responsible for the completion of a physical assessment of each participant within 24 hours of arrival and the continuous monitoring of the individual thereafter. Responsible for writing an experience report on cabin  and other report, logs, and forms as necessary; assist  in writing postcards, and making buttons. Responsible for periodically serving as "Cabin Duty" person in assigned cabin (during rest hour and in evening after bedtime). Responsible at all times for the appearance and cleanliness of cabin. Attends Planning Meetings and communicates information discussed at meeting with cabin co-workers. Write self‑evaluations to be discussed and then filed.  Personal evaluations are given by Village Leader upon completion of self-evaluations. Provide information for written evaluations of volunteers assigned to cabin. Counselors are required to model an appropriate example for volunteers. Participate in the planning and implementation of evening programs; such as skits, sing‑a‑longs, talent shows, etc. for all camp and village programs.   • COUNSELOR IN TRAINING – all sites REQUIREMENTS:  The Counselor in Training should be at least 16 years of age, and have had a successful volunteer experience with Friendship Ventures; although, a high school student with relative experience, may be an acceptable substitute for the Friendship Ventures volunteer requirement.  The <stockticker w:st="on">CIT</stockticker> must be physically and emotionally strong, mentally alert, creative, flexible and able to lift at least 40 lbs. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the health, personal care needs, safety and general welfare of all assigned to cabin.  Assist individuals with physical disabilities or other limitations who need support with eating meals, walking, transferring, using the bathroom, etc. Assist in planning and implementing daily activities with program area leaders and co‑workers to meet the needs and interests of in assigned cabin.  Participate with them in all activities and encourage positive reinforcement. Responsible to the health care staff and/or administrative staff for notification of sickness or injury and assist with treatments needed by individuals.  Also, keep‑up-to-date Bowel Movement (BM) Charts required for specific. Make sure all participant's belongings are properly checked in upon arrival and all items are present and accounted for when leaving.  Assist them in caring for personal belongings.  See that they have an adequate supply of clean clothing by delivering dirty items to the laundry. Responsible for assisting counselors with writing experience reports at the completion of each session.  Assist in writing a postcard home.  Assist counselors with writing reports regarding accidents/incidents, behavior logs, seizure reports, and making buttons to be given at the end of each session. Responsible for assisting counselors with "Cabin Watch" (during rest hour and in evening after bedtime).  Counselor in Trainings may not serve on "Cabin Duty" alone. Assist with responsibility for the appearance and cleanliness of cabin at all times for health and safety of. Attend at least one Planning Meeting with a counseling staff member and communicate information discussed at meeting with co‑workers. Write self‑evaluations assigned by Program manager. Counselor in Trainings will have meetings during set rest hours and/or activity hours.  Counselor in Trainings will be allowed day or evening (in by 12:30 a.m.) time off each session.  A parent/guardian must sign a permission slip that allows the Counselor in Training to leave the campgrounds, and with who.   • HOURLY RELIEF COUNSELOR – all sites RESPONSIBILITIES: There are many and varied cabin assignments throughout the week. Assignments are made by the Program Manager or designated Village Leader and based on individual cabin needs. Cabin assignments for the week are given the first or second day of the session for the week. Relief staff should consult with the counselors about cabin concerns they should know; and should be with their assigned cabin at all times. May be assigned to assist to help in program areas such as day trips,  the aquatic areas and other areas.   • ARTS AND CRAFTS LEADER – all sites REQUIRMENTS: The Arts and Crafts Leader should be a college student or graduate in art, art education, industrial arts, recreation or a related field.  Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities. RESPONSIBILITIES: Is responsible for all equipment/materials in the Arts and Crafts area.  Provide a safe and nurturing environment. Provide materials, instructions and supervision to and staff in arts and crafts activities. Motivate groups to understand and appreciate the world in which they live, through curiosity, demonstrating, displays and study, without the classroom atmosphere. Continually inter‑relate arts and crafts with all other phases of the camp program.  Adding this particular talent to special camp activities such as story nights, skits, and other evening programs.   • LIFEGUARD – all sites REQUIREMENTS: Should be at least 18 years old and should have previous experience with waterfront supervision and swimming instruction.  A W.S.I. Certificate or an equivalent is preferred and certification in Lifeguard Training is required.  Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer is required. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assume responsibility for safety of and staff during all aquatic activities. Assist with instruction for adjusting to water, learning to swim, and adapted activities. Assist with planning and leading rainy day activities. Assist with maintenance and cleaning of waterfront beach and boating areas; clean, rake and haul weeds when necessary.   • RECREATION LEADER (EW) REQUIREMENTS: The Recreation Leader should be a college student or graduate in recreation or related field.   Experience with individuals with developmental or physical disabilities is helpful.  Will possibly complete ropes course training and become a certified instructor of Archery though the National Archery Association.  CRP and First Aid Certified required. Responsible RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for all equipment/materials related to the recreation area. Responsible for checking swing set or playground equipment daily for any damage or alteration that would make it unsafe for individuals to use. Provide materials, instructions and supervision to and staff in recreation activities. Motivate groups to participate by adapting activities so that activities can be enjoyed by all vacationers. Communicate regularly with counselors to learn of strengths and weaknesses of each group so plans can be made accordingly. Carry out duties and responsibilities listed for program staff. Lead and assist the activities with the initiatives high/low ropes course.   • MUSIC LEADER – all sites REQUIREMENTS: The Music Leader should be enrolled in music education, a music therapy program or have related experience.    Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities.  RESPONSIBILITIES: Is responsible for all equipment/materials in music area. Responsible for planning and carrying out musical activities that will stimulate vacationers who have a wide range of abilities. Communicate regularly with counselors to learn of strengths and weaknesses of each group so plans can be made accordingly. Keep a daily log of activities with an indication of the degree of success that was attained by each group.  This list of activities should be added to the music file. Explore the possibilities available for enhancing evening and special programs by planning music activities that might enable to express themselves in programs such as talent shows, etc. Carry out duties and responsibilities listed for program staff.   • TRIP / LEADER (CF/EW) REQUIREMENTS: The Day Trip Leader should have experience and/or Education in the field of developmental disabilities.  One or more years in a resident camp, preferably in a camp for people with developmental disabilities.  Current certification in Basic First Aid and CPR.  Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, at least 3 years of driving experience and be at least 21 years of age.  Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.  RESPONSIBILITIES:  Allow for a safe, enjoyable, and fun trip, while allowing the as much independence as possible. Introduce day trip to one another and to staff.  Confirm all are present before leaving camp. Involve in making choices during the trips (i.e. selecting their food; equipment when bowling and mini-golfing; rides at an amusement park; etc.). Following the trips, write a weekly summary of the group's activity.  Include examples of how the vacationer responded, recommenda­tions for future trips. Communicate each individual's experience on the day trip to counseling staff and care providers both verbally and with a written report. Manage trip funds (cash/travelers checks/credit card) and documentation of all expenses: gas, food, and attractions.  Assist with their personal money and purchases, if needed. Document incidents/accidents, etc., which occur on appropriate forms.  Document non-prescription medications given. Responsible for knowledge of medical care issues of, direct administration of medications, and relaying all information regarding medical attention given to the administrative staff. On longer trips (i.e. to the Cities), call-in to the main office (at pre-set times). Upon return, copy reports to be sent home and file all reports, summaries and expense information, including remaining trip funds. Return all equipment to appropriate storage areas.  Report equipment repair needs to the Program Manager  or Program Director. Help to plan, organize, and implement orientation (pre-camp and mini, weekends); coordinate one volunteer orientation. Assist in reading experience reports. Share responsibility with administrative staff and other coordinators to be on call for problems that may arise after evening programs. Communicate problems or concerns with scheduling or with staff / volunteers that are being experienced with the day trip program  with the village leaders  and Program Manager. Greet parents and care providers during check-in and check-out; ensure that are brought to the correct cabins and that they do not miss their ride home.  Also assist with cabin and building clean-up. Attend the weekly all‑staff meetings. Assist health care staff in setting up and dispensing medications when needed. Coordinate town runs with administrative staff. Scheduling hayride driving times with the other coordinators and program leaders. Work closely with Program Manager in the scheduling of transportation for Special Interest Activities and work with any other scheduling of van usage for programmatic purposes.   • Ropes Course Leader Camp Friendship & Camp Eden Wood REQUIREMENTS The Ropes Course Leader should be a college student or graduate in recreation, recreation therapy, or a related field and enjoy spending time outdoors. Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible to provide leadership and supervision to groups involved with the summer resident camp Team Quest programs. Complete training requirements and demonstrate skills with cooperative group games, low and high challenge course elements, knot tying, safe use of equipment (element hardware, helmets, harnesses, belay pieces, belay ropes, ladders) and set-up and take-down procedures. Is responsible for all equipment/materials used for and on the Ropes Course.  Provides a safe and nurturing environment. Orient groups to proper safe use and procedures in activities and ropes course use. Demonstrate knowledge of Team Quest policies and procedures. Attend instructor training sessions when possible. Continually inter‑relate team work with all other phases of the camp program and life. Communicate regularly with counselors to learn of strengths and weaknesses of each group so plans can be made accordingly. To maintain a quality working relationship with co-workers and user groups. Work cooperatively, energetically, and enthusiastically. Experiment with a wide range of group games and activities so that all participates can participate to their fullest ability. Assist with set up and take down of equipment as needed. Responsible for properly storing equipment after each use. Responsible to report as soon as practicable any damage or deficiencies in program equipment, and accidents or hazards on the course to the Director of Adventure Programs. Demonstrate a commitment to Friendship Ventures by conducting oneself in a professional manner. To perform tasks as deemed necessary by the Director of Adventure Programs  to ensure the success of and further develop the Team Quest programs. Assure that the physical course is free of little and that the environmental impact is minimal. To perform any miscellaneous duties as requested by the administrative staff.   • Village Leader – all sites REQUIRMENTES: The Village leader should be at least 21 years of age. A college major in a related field is preferred, but experience in the field of developmental disabilities may be an acceptable substitute. One or more years of residential camp experience, preferably in a camp for people with developmental disabilities. Current certification in Basic First Aid, Child/Adult CPR and Community Water Safety.  Be able to provide “spunk” and positive energy to camp. RESPONSIBILITIES: Campers / Villagers: Provide a safe and fun camp experience. Following camper cabin assignments will preview camper applications before participant's arrival.  Notify staff of concerns or suggestions.  Familiarize self with any medial or behavioral issues and programs. Ask supervisor for assistance as needed. Communicate problems/concerns the cabin groups are experiencing to the appropriate supervisor as assigned in a expedient and accurate manner. Act as liaison for caregivers and counselors, in supporting campers. Read, assess and follow up on camper written and verbal reports such as “Report to caregivers” and “Behavior logs”. Work with Village staff to take actions to decrease the chances of re-occurrence.  Report information to supervisor and complete the report. Read, assess and process the end of the week Experience Summary.  Provide guidance, and feed back to village staff.  Record certain participant information (placements, red flags, caregiver concern, etc.) by relaying it to a supervisor in a written document so it can be entered into that person's camp file. In a timely manner will process of returning misplaced personal property of clientele after attending. Assist laundry staff in monitoring care of client clothing. Response to camper / caregiver “Experience Survey’s as assigned by the Program Director / Manager. Staff / Volunteer Support. Active in the planning, organizing, and implementing of pre-camp orientation and other training as assigned by supervisor. Responsible for the cabin assignments of all Village staff. Provide variety of experiences and determine teams that work well together.  Responsible for problem solving and team building for Village staff. Supervision and support to all village staff.   Provide daily support and encouragement by helping in the cabin, problems solving, promoting team work and open communication. Support village volunteers. Provide daily encouragement by helping in the cabin, problems solving, promoting team work and open communication. Observe their interactions with staff/volunteers and participants. Offer feedback, suggestions in a supportive manner. Responsible for performance evaluations of Village staff. Responsible to assigned village - be available and ready to help with problems that may arise after evening programs.  Village Captain  or the Volunteer Village Leader will be back up during Village Leader evening off. Programs; Plan, implement and participate in village activities with village staff.   • CAMPING LEADER REQUIREMENTS: The Camping Leader should be a college student or graduate in adventure-based, outdoor, or environmental education or a related field.  Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities. RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedules over night camping and picnic excursion s with unit cabins and special interest groups at the camping meeting.  Advises Health Care Coordinator and Village Leaders of schedule. Provides instruction and supervision to staff and in camping activities. Responsible for the accountability of camping equipment issued and received.  Ensures that all equipment is returned in good condition and repaired if necessary. maintains a current equipment inventory, checks-in and out camping equipment, oversees cleaning and organization of equipment, supervises proper use of all camping equipment and overnight camping sites, and checks on each overnight for proper set up of tents and  fire building. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the tent room, screened-in porch, overnight camping sites and Thompson Hall. Prepares utility packs of camping equipment for unit cabins. Assist cabin groups in getting to overnight or picnic location.  Share responsibility of driving hayride and boats. Motivate group participation in overnight camping experiences. Incorporates other aspects of the camp program into overnight camping. i.e.  sing-a-longs, storytelling, campfire activities, skits... experiment with new ideas in relation to overnight camping. Responsible to communicate decisions regarding overnight camping if weather conditions are doubtful to the counselors and other program leaders per the Program Manager. Ensures sleeping bags have been heat treated, laundered (if necessary), tied, and returned to the tent room. Communicates regularly with staff for evaluating camping area. Attends program staff meetings and carries out duties and responsibilities listed for program staff if camping duties are completed. Is responsible to visit each Village camp out, and support them with an evening program idea.  Provide leadership and training in camping skills such as setting up tents, building a fire, cooking over a fire and so forth.   • AQUA COORDINATOR REQUIREMENTS: The Aqua coordinator must have a current Red Cross W.S.I. Certificate, or lifeguard training certificate, and have a minimum of six weeks supervisory or management experience in an aquatic setting or with people with developmental disabilities.  Must be currently certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for a complete list of, listing physical or medical restrictions and other information pertinent to swimming prior to each camping session. Responsible to make decisions as to whether or not to have swimming if weather conditions are doubtful. Develop swimming group lists for each lifeguard based on any previous knowledge about swimming abilities and assign counselors and volunteers as aides. Aqua coordinator schedules and works out details of canoe trips for lessons, practice, and actual trip in partnership with counselors and village leaders. Assume responsibility for safety of both and staff during all waterfront and pool activities. Provide instruction for in adjusting to water, learning to swim, and adapted activities. Explain emergency procedures and daily routines to all staff during the orientation of the waterfront area and the pool. Is responsible for planning rainy day activities. Responsible for completion of swimming records on each participant at the end of each session, if applicable. Is responsible for maintenance and cleaning of waterfront beach, boating areas, island dock and the pool.  This includes maintaining clean bathrooms at both the waterfront and the pool area.  Report island maintenance problems to the camp full time maintenance staff. In consultation with lifeguards, decide if weather conditions warrant use of boats.  Is responsible for providing a safe environment for to participates and staff in aqua activities. Helps in assigned village cabin when not working with aqua duties. To perform any miscellaneous duties requested by the administrative staff. Responsible for assigning lifeguard rotation to the pool / lake and provide supervision. Follow ACA standards regarding all aqua activities as assigned by Program Manager and Program Director.  Fishing Guide REQUIREMENTS: The Fishing Guide should preferably be a college student or graduate in an education or related field and have a valid driver’s license.  Background in variety of recreational activities, fishing, and outdoor education preferred.  Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is helpful. RESPONSIBILITIES  Catch Fish! Organize, plan, and implement Hook, Line & Sinker special interest sessions and all fishing groups: lead fishing for general cabins groups and Special Interest, evaluates and redefines sessions; constantly upgrading curriculum, manages budget and expenditures in relation to session. Responsible for scheduling of sessions, organizing individuals into special interest groups, and the notification to and staff of schedule. Assist with the planning and leadership of rainy day activities. Assist with maintenance and cleaning of waterfront beach and boating areas; clean, rake and haul weeds as assigned by Aqua coordinator. Drive boats in a responsible manner while keeping all passengers safe. Help in assigned cabin when not working with special interest or cabin group. May assist in of day trips / hay rides / town runs, as assigned. Carry out duties and responsibilities listed for program staff. Maintains and repairs all fishing equipment.  Keeps fishing shack in clean and safe order.  Orders bait as needed.   • PUBLIC RELATIONS ASSISTANT REQUIREMENTS: The Public Relations Assistant should be a college student or graduate majoring in journalism, public relations, communications, photography or related field.  It is helpful if at least 21 years old, has a valid drivers license with a clean drivers record. RESPONSIBILITIES: Organize system for conducting interviews with counselors, program staff members, volunteers, and other seasonal staff to gather information for news releases to area newspapers.  Take photo to include with news release. Opens, operates and cleans the store / snack area/ game room area during the established hours.  Will notify supervisor of night-off. Records all vacationer’s canteen income on check‑in day. This list indicates the campers that should  or (should not) purchase t-shirts, sweatshirts, or hats.  Canteen manager and counselors will assist vacationer with selection of item(s). Records the use of individual vacationer money and refunds the correct amount at the end of each day and each session. Handles store bookkeeping, which involves vacationer and staff accounts, daily sale summaries, and invoice checking. Maintains a weekly inventory of canteen items and apparel. Approves all requests by the counselors that involve vacationer money. Responsible for the cleaning of and maintaining a clean & safe environment in the store, & the snack / game room area.  May attends program staff meetings and may take part in evening programs as assigned by program manager.   • Special Diets Cook REQUIREMENTS: The Special Diets Cook should be a student in a college level food and nutrition or dietetics program or have interest in special diets.  Pleasant, positive attitude and good customer service skill is required.  Oversee the special dietary needs of campers and staff in the resident camp, weekend respite, and / or tripping programs. Provide nutrition education to camp staff and participants. Screen camper applications and staff health histories for special dietary needs. Contact care givers as needed. Review special diet information with parents/caregivers at check-in. Assist food service staff with menu planning, preparation, and serving of special diets. Transportation Manager / Weekend Host REQUIREMENTS: The transportation leader/weekend host should be a college student or graduate and at least 21 years of age. Preferred knowledge of local area or willingness to navigate around city and rural areas.  Live in position.  Works at Camp Friendship /Annandale.  RESPONSIBILITIES: Hold a valid U.S. driver license, and has a clean driver’s record with no more than one moving violation within the past three years. Manage transportation for all staff and volunteers to and from airport, train station and bus station upon arrival and departure from camp. Works with HR leader to ensure that staff are welcomed upon arrival at camp and given a tour of site.   • COOKING LEADER: REQUIREMENTS: The Cooking Leader should be a college student or graduate preferably in a dietetic/food/culinary area.  Willingness to work with a variety of dietary needs; experience with cooking and baking.  Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities. RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedules cooking and baking activities with cabins and special interest groups at the activity planning meeting. Provides instruction and supervision to staff and campers in cooking activities. Responsible for the accountability of cooking equipment issued and received.  Ensures that all equipment is returned in good condition and repaired if necessary. Maintains a current equipment inventory. Checks-in and out cooking equipment, oversees cleaning and organization of equipment, supervises proper use of all cooking equipment. The campus is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country about 40 miles west of San Antonio. Throughout a summer we welcome between 700-900  participants ranging in age from 6 to 18 years.     • Waterfront Director: QUALIFICATIONS:  Experienced curriculum writer for inner-city kids. Mature, loving, but firm disciplinarian. Able to work with and develop City Staff who help with Bible times. Good listener and communicator.

      Aware of and able to apply age group and world view characteristics to lessons and classroom. In depth knowledge of the Bible and Bible study aids. Familiar with and able to use Bible teaching aids and resources. Organized and able to develop lesson plans and execute them in a creative and interesting manner. Age:  21 years minimum Valid driver’s license with no accidents or moving violations in the last three years. Life Guard certification (current) or other nationally recognized water craft instructor certification (The Oaks provides this training each May if needed.) Experience:  Experience driving a ski boat and backing a trailer is preferred.  Experience working cross culturally is preferred. Cultural sensitivity and a desire to minister cross culturally are required. Training:  Driver will be trained by the Aquatics Director or other trained staff member. Maturity:  Driver must be able to maintain an environment of safety at all times, and be able to Conduct oneself in a professional manner under a variety of difficult circumstances. DUTIES:  Prepare boat and jet skis for the summer. Train other staff to operate jet skis. Drive boat for four weeks of summer camp. Perform maintenance on vehicles, boat and jet skis. Keep vehicle and watercrafts fueled and ready to use. Ensure safety of participants at all times. Supervise Summer Staff Jet Ski drivers. Enforce rules and policies. Secure lake entrance passes and ensure all OAKS representatives know and obey park rules. Train OAKS staff regarding safety, procedures, and park rules. Inspect boat and jet skis daily for damage. Transport boat and jet skis to the lake and back (from either THE OAKS or other designated approved location). Protect the equipment from theft and vandalism. Camp Courageous - Iowa

Posted 9/15/08 Seasonal and Year-round Staff needed at Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities. Campers with mental and physical disabilities, brain injuries, hearing or visual impairments, autism, ADD and other special needs are served. Working with children and adults with special needs is often a very real challenge. Campers may need help with personal care including feeding, dressing, and personal care. Some campers exhibit behavior problems. Patience, energy, good judgment and enthusiasm are important qualifications for a position at Camp Courageous. The hours are long. An unselfish attitude and an emphasis on teamwork are needed. Staff are expected to put the campers’ needs before their own. Volunteer positions, internships, and paid positions are available.

  • Salary/Benefits: Volunteers and interns can receive an optional stipend of $25.00/week plus room and board, and a restricted medical plan. Paid counselors and activity specialists receive the best employment package around. Seasonal staff earn $315/week while year-round staff earn $410-440-/week. Room and board are provided which include air-conditioned staff dormitories affording the staff separate living quarters from the campers. Staff share cabin duty on a rotating basis. Other benefits include a restricted medical plan for seasonal staff and health insurance and one week of paid vacation for year-round staff. Camp provides a bonus for returning seasonal summer staff and a monetary incentive for recruiting additional staff.

Health and Medication Aide - Annandale, MN

  • REQUIREMENTS: The Health and Medication Aide- may be a graduate nurse, nursing student with clinical experience which includes skills and medication administration, other health care major (Pre-med, Physician’s Assistant, or EMT) or individuals with experience in a health care setting.  The Health  and Medication Aide  must complete an orientation/training session conducted by the Director of Health Care Services or assigned Health Center Staff and must successfully demonstrate all pertinent skills. First Aid/CPR certification or equivalent is required. Reside in Health Center and rotate on-call status. Pleasant, positive attitude and good customer skills are required.  Must be detail orientated and organized.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES: Work under the supervision of the Camp Nurse to: Set up and administer medication. Assist with cabin staff training regarding treatments and cares. Administer First Aid and treatment to minor wounds as directed by the RN. Evaluate participants’ medical needs and report to the RN. Monitor health care concerns of staff / participants and report to the RN. Attend staff meetings, display effective communication and implement solutions. Daily interact with assigned cabin groups at mealtimes, selected activities and as assigned. Write Health Care Profiles. Prepare / restock Health Center supplies and cabin health supplies prior to each session. Answer the phone. May need to communicate and clarify camper medical details with care giver / physician. Accompany participants to clinic or hospital. Maintain cleanliness of the Health Center. Monitor Health Center supplies and manage adequate stock. Maintain  personal health throughout the camp season. Perform miscellaneous duties as requested by supervisor (i.e., ordering supplies; errands). Complete self-evaluation, seasonal evaluation with Dir. of Health Care, and final program evaluation. Be a role model and appropriate example for camp staff, volunteers and campers.
