Remembering George Thompson

First coming to Crown as a speech professor in 1967, George Thompson was an active man of faith throughout his life

Recently, alumnus Don Wiggins of the Northwestern District Office notified the Crown community that Dr. George Thompson passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010. Thompson was a long-time pastor in the Northwestern Alliance District and a professor at Crown College.

Wiggins noted: "In one conversation this past year, George shared with me that he served as an interim pastor more than two dozen times during his teaching days and in 'retirement.'  As recently as six weeks ago he was working on another book, this one applying the beatitudes to every-day life. His son Lee informed us with this word:

I rejoice that he has finally met our Lord face-to-face. I grieve at the loss of a great mentor and father.  We are hoping to hold a memorial at Rose Hill on Tuesday the 6th of July."

The Bonnie M. Thompson Helpmeet Encouragement Grant at Crown was endowed by Dr. George and Bonnie Thompson and the Thompson family. The Grant awards up to 50 percent of the current tuition rate to the wife of a full-time student in the Biblical and Theological Studies or Christian Ministry departments, or one who is preparing for full-time ministry.
