Crown College Mission

The mission of Crown College is to provide a biblically based education for Christian leadership in The Christian and Missionary Alliance, the church-at-large, and the world.

Crown College Statement of Faith

The mission of Crown College is to provide a biblically based education for Christian leadership in The Christian and Missionary Alliance, the church-at-large, and the world.

  1. There is one God, who is infinitely perfect, existing eternally in three persons.
  2. Jesus Christ is true God and true man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures. He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest. He will come again to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace.
  3. The Holy Spirit is a divine person, sent to indwell, guide, teach, empower the believer, and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.
  4. The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice.
  5. Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God; he fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All men are born with a sinful nature, are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The portion of the impenitent and unbelieving is existence forever in conscious torment; and that of the believer, in everlasting joy and bliss.
  6. Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God.
  7. It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly, being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service. This is both a crisis and a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion.
  8. Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body. Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the Church in this present age.
  9. The Church consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the head of the Body, the Church, which has been commissioned by Him to go into all of the world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations. The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
  10. There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life; for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment.
  11. The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent and will be personal, visible, and pre-millennial. This is the believer’s blessed hope and is a vital truth, which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.

Official Statement of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA)
In addition to the above, the following text indicates the C&MA and Crown College’s understanding and teaching position on certain points which could be subject to various interpretations. Crown College does not necessarily deny employment to persons merely for lack of firm personal conviction on any teaching position in these explanatory notes. However, the College does weigh carefully the understanding and personal convictions of employment applicants on these points as well as the nature of their prospective work assignments in determining their suitability for employment.

The Bible is clear in its teaching on the sanctity of life. Life begins at conception. We are opposed to the destruction of innocent life through abortion on demand.

Homosexual conduct is incompatible with Christian teaching and cannot be condoned. Therefore persons who engage in homosexual conduct and/or relationships may not be accepted for employment or continued employment.

Divorce and remarriage is permissible when one’s spouse (not oneself) has been guilty of adultery and restoration of the broken marriage vows has become impossible (Matthew 19:9). Divorce and remarriage is permissible when one’s spouse (not oneself) abandons the marriage (1 Corinthians 7:15). Divorce and remarriage is permissible if the parties made no profession of faith prior to or at the time of the divorce (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Biblical Aspirations:
As a body of believers at Crown College, we commit to pursuing truth and learning to serve Christ together. We desire to be a community whose belief and behavior is inextricably intertwined in order that we might reflect the kingdom of God to the world.

Principles and Standards:
As a Christ-centered community of growing Christians who desire spiritual transformation and value academic excellence and a globally connected community, Crown College has chosen to adopt the following principles and standards that reinforce and support a biblical worldview and lifestyle. These guidelines are at the heart of who we are as a body of believers. Some of these principles and standards apply to believers in general, and others are particular to Crown College.

Authority of the Word of God – We believe that the Word of God is the inerrant revelation for Christian belief and behavior and is our ultimate authority. By following the Scriptures regarding lifestyle decisions, an individual may discover a life of holiness in relation to God and others.

The Lordship of Christ and the Spirit-filled Life – We believe that Jesus Christ desires a personal relationship with every individual and invites us to enter into life in Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. We recognize that apart from Christ we can do nothing, and as we surrender to Him, His love will flow through our lives. This personal relationship is fostered by individuals who open themselves to God by practicing various spiritual disciplines such as prayer, Bible study, fasting, discipleship, stewardship, accountability, service, fellowship, witnessing, and individual and corporate worship. When we experience God’s transforming power, we will develop personally and flourish as a community. This leads to a life which glorifies Jesus Christ, enriches the believer through the fruit of God’s Spirit, and radically impacts a lost world.

Christian Character and Maturity – We believe God calls us to develop a healthy lifestyle that balances the spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and intellectual dimensions of who we are. All of these areas are integral parts of the curricular and co-curricular experience at Crown College.
The Bible describes character qualities that should be present in the lives of believers. These include love, joy, kindness, peace, patience, humility, compassion, forgiveness, hospitality, integrity, self-control, generosity, care for the oppressed, commitment to justice, and the recognition of the rights and needs of others. We believe that these characteristics are fully developed only through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
The Word of God also identifies character qualities and actions that should not be present in the lives of believers such as abusive anger; malice; jealousy; lust; sexually immoral behavior including premarital sex, adultery, and homosexuality; impure desires; prejudice based on race, sex, or socioeconomic status; greed; idolatry; slander; profanity; lying; drunkenness; thievery; and dishonesty. According to Scripture, these qualities are not acceptable for the Christian, and therefore, are unacceptable for members of the Crown College community. We need the transforming power of Christ for change to take place in these areas. The guiding principle for these choices comes from Philippians 4:8, “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Specific guidelines and standards of conduct are found in the Student and Employee Handbooks.

Conclusions About Community Life:
As such we commit to the principles and standards of the Community Covenant and the expectations outlined in the Student and Employee handbooks in order to maintain the spirit and health of the community. These principles and policies are binding for all who voluntarily choose to become part of the Crown College Community as representatives on the Board of Trustees, employees who minister and serve on behalf of Crown College, and undergraduate students in the School of Arts and Sciences.
Recognizing that we have an obligation to hold each other accountable to biblical standards and to the commitments we have made, appropriate action will be taken to teach, influence, reconcile, discipline, or even dismiss those who disregard these community expectations. If some find themselves unable to honor these commitments, withdrawal may be in order. We will strive to have all disciplinary procedures characterized by Christian love. This Community Covenant is subject to change only by action of the Board of Trustees.

Staff Positions

  • Director of Admission, School of Arts and Sciences (SAS)

    The Director of Admission works under the general direction of the Dean of SAS Enrollment and is primarily responsible for all enrollment efforts related to recruiting, managing, motivating, training, planning, dreaming and goal achievement for the Admission Department of the School of Arts and Sciences. The Director of Admission reports to the Dean of SAS Enrollment

    SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

    •  Lead and oversee all SAS student recruitment efforts including the review of individual strategies and schedules and the coordination of all prospect correspondence related to fairs, events, schools, and churches.
    • Manage the day-to-day functions of the SAS Admission office to ensure all enrollment goals are being met.
    • Set goals, objectives and manage available resources to achieve objectives.
    • Develop and maintain a strategic recruitment plan based on analysis of marketing reports and surveys and assume responsibility for the implementation of the plan.
    • Work with the Event Coordinator to develop and implement event strategies that encourage targeted prospective students to choose Crown College.
    • Work closely with external enrollment consultants to establish search, qualification and application generation strategies.
    • Work closely with Marketing to brainstorm and develop pertinent collateral and other marketing efforts.
    • Work closely with the Interim Athletic Director and Athletic Liaison to coordinate recruiting efforts of student-athletes.
    • Work closely with the Communication Manager to ensure continuity and timeliness of data entry and communication flow throughout all levels of the funnel.
    • Develop admission policies and procedures in conjunction with various campus entities.
    • Speak into the development of new institutional financial aid strategies that align with overall enrollment objectives.
    • Work with Dean of SAS Enrollment to manage current budget and plan for future initiatives.
    • Help evaluate and coordinate the efforts of a new CRM system.
    • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all SAS Enrollment employees.
    • Prepare regular management reports and meet regularly with the Dean of SAS Enrollment to inform of progress towards goals.
    • Represent the college through travel and/or at events as necessary and appropriate given other responsibilities.
    • Represent the department on various campus committees.
    • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

  • Director of Financial Aid

    The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for all matters relating to student financial aid funding from federal, state, institutional and private programs/resources, as well as managing the Financial Aid Office personnel.  The Director is also ensures institutional compliance with all Federal Student Aid regulations, State regulations and Institutional Policies/Procedures. This position reports directly to the Dean of SAS Enrollment and indirectly to the Dean of the School of Online Studies and the Graduate School.

    SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:

    • The Director of Financial Aid currently supervises two Financial Aid Counselors, the Financial Aid Technical Specialist and the Financial Aid Office Assistant (student labor).

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

    • Supervise and manage the direction and day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office.
    • Customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment by directing, recruiting, selecting, training and evaluating staff in the Financial Aid department.
    • Provide mentoring and training for staff and other campus entities.
    • Provide administrative oversight for all financial aid programs.
    • Provide technical guidance related to Title IV and State regulatory compliance, evaluate changes to the regulatory environment, and provide campus training on new or changed regulations and policies.
    • Supervise and adhere to all document requirements for compliance to applicable lender, state and federal regulations.
    • Oversee annual (a)133 audit, respond to institutional auditor findings, reconcile any deficient findings and perform all duties to meet the required standards.
    • Oversee various reporting and survey requirements (FISAP, Participation Agreements, State grant, CDS, CCCU, etc).
    • Oversee Department of Education audits, as necessary.
    • Oversee Pell, SEOG, FWS, Direct Loan processing, reporting and reconciliation.
    • Maintain technical knowledge by attending annual and periodic conferences/seminars related to Title IV and state regulations and funding.
    • Supervise and be involved in the awarding of all financial aid programs to students.
    • Develop annual scholarship/operating budget for the Financial Aid Office according to enrollment goals and needs (in conjunction with the Dean of SAS Enrollment).
    • Develop, implement, assess and re-develop all financial aid policies and procedures.
    • Manage the communication of financial aid information to students including correspondence, brochures, marketing collateral and personal counseling of students.
    • Serve as a member of the Scholarship Committee and assist in the award process for Alumni, Gift and Endowed Scholarships.
    • Ensure that communication integrity and relational integrity are maintained by the entire office at all times to all internal and external constituents.
    • Exercise a strong partnership with the SAS and SOSGS Admission Offices, and a strong presence with other campus entities (Billing, Registrar, Student Development, Athletics, Music, External Relations, etc.)
    • Provide financial aid seminars for prospective families and Crown College students and staff, as well as other public presentation opportunities as they arise.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

    • In-depth knowledge of U.S. Department of Education Title IV laws and regulations and the Federal Student Aid Handbook.
    • Experience in a comprehensive financial aid office serving traditional, online, adult and graduate programs utilizing both standard and non-standard terms.
    • A strong enrollment perspective on the impact of the Financial Aid Office and a willingness to consider Financial Aid as more than a service function.
    • A passionate commitment to customer service (along with demonstrated evidence)

  • Coordinator of Alumni Relations

    The Coordinator of Alumni Relations is responsible for engaging alumni with Crown College.  Through communications, social media and events, alumni are kept informed about the College and encouraged to support the College through their time and finances.  The Coordinator develops and implements strategies to create fun and rewarding interaction.  The ultimate goals are to increase alumni pride in their College and their financial gifts. This position reports to the Director of External Relations.

    This is a full time, benefits eligible, non-exempt position. Working hours are 8:00 – 4:30, Monday through Friday. Working some evenings and weekends is required.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

    60% Alumni Communication

    • Talks daily with alumni in multiple means: social media, phone, email, written correspondence to update them on events, matters they are interested in and ultimately to engage them in helping the College
    • Responsible for alumni newsletter(s) in hard copy and or electronic. Gathers alumni information, drafts updates and works with marketing to format and produce the letter
    • Identifies and encourages “class agents” per graduation class to keep information up to date and produce their own class letters. Monitors what classes are engaging
    • Uses social media metrics to measure impact of social media connections.
    • Maintains strong level of customer service by assisting constituents, in person, by telephone and email
    • Develop protocol and implement acknowledgements, condolences, and congratulatory communications for alumni

    20% Alumni “Asks” and Events

    • Tracks on-going alumni giving % by class and as a whole.
    • Partners with the Manager, Donor Relations to conduct bi-annual “asks”
    • Leads Homecoming, Alumni gatherings and other events in coordination with other departments

    20% Alumni Data Updating and Reporting

    • Collect and record all alumni biographical data in a highly consistent and accurate manner, including coding and relational links.
    • Update email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, last names, etc. to ensure the ability to connect with alumni regularly.
    • Conduct prospect research using social media to identify alumni by employer, job level, job type, and form affinity groups to assist the college in fund raising and alumni with connections

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

    • Understands what makes content sticky / shareable/ viral and develops communications on social media channels and through email blasts to reach and engage alumni of all ages
    • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills
    • Strong organizational, prioritization and project management skills are essential
    • Must possess good customer service skills
    • Experience using social media for higher education or nonprofit organization
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • One to Three years of successful experience in an office setting demonstrating excellent customer service and creativity
