The Network Engineer oversees the development, implementation, maintenance, and support of the Crown College network and its services, from maintaining the physical network infrastructure to providing support for users experiencing difficulty accessing files or printers.
The successful Candidate will have:
- Bachelors degree and/or three years experience in the IT industry, preferably in higher education,
- Comprehensive knowledge of computer and networking,
- Some experience with Novell Netware, Microsoft Windows Server, Linux, and HP/Compaq Open VMS would be beneficial, but not required,
- Detailed knowledge of TCP/IP-based networks, and network security.
The Network Administrator will:
- Maintain physical hardware on all servers in the server farm,
- Manage servers used to host the virtual machines that act as live and test servers,
- Monitor the storage utilization of the various servers and make upgrade recommendations,
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the college network disaster recovery policies,
- Maintain the equipment that facilitates and secures the campus Internet connection,
- Oversee development and expansion of campus network cable infrastructure,
- Assist with developing and maintaining network security policies,
- Assist with troubleshooting the various network service applications (file-sharing, printing, email, etc.).
Work Conditions:
- This position consists of extremely heavy use of a variety of computer systems,
- Installation of server hardware may require lifting up to 50 pounds, and
- Ability to provide technical support principally via telephone.
- The office environment is that of a Christ-centered college.
