The Honors Program seeks to fulfill its mission through special courses, involvement in cultural and intellectual activities outside the classroom, and the development of a sense of community among Honors students. The following are the standard admissions criteria for students applying to the Honors program:
- First-year students should be in the top 15% of their high school class.
- Their grade point average should be at least a 3.50 on a 4.00 scale.
- Their composite ACT or SAT scores should be in the 85th percentile or above.
- Students who meet most of the academic criteria in 1, 2, and 3 are also encouraged to apply.
- Each applicant will show Christian character and service in a local church.
- Current or transfer students who apply should have a cumulative 3.3 GPA or better in all previous college work.
There are three elements to the Honors Program:
- Four specific Honors cohort courses taken in place of general education requirements. Three additional general education courses taken with an additional Honors component. (For more information, see the Course/Faculty link on the Honors Program homepage).
- Two Honors courses in the student's major.
- Participation in various cultural and intellectual life events sponsored by Crown College and the Honors Committee (required attendance at 7 out of 10 semester events).
Students enrolled in the program prior to the Fall of 2007: To be an Honors Program graduate, a student must participate in the cultural events and maintain an average of at least 3.30 in the nine Honors courses and at least a 3.25 overall average. Upon successful completion of all requirements, Honors students will graduate with a special Honors designation on their degrees, indication as Honors graduates on their transcripts, and special recognition at graduation.
Students enrolled in the program beginning in the Fall of 2007 (and after): To be an Honors Program graduate, a student will be required to maintain a 3.5 overall GPA and participate in approximately 75% of cultural events sponsored by the program. Upon successful completion of all requirements, Honors students will graduate with a special Honors designation on their degrees, indication as Honors graduates on their transcripts, and special recognition at graduation.
